Armed with advanced punch presses and expert insight, Tempco Manufacturing delivers high-volume excellence
Marking its 80th anniversary in 2025, Tempco Manufacturing continues to lead the market with its metal forming capabilities. Delivering everything from engineering and prototyping to custom metal stamping, the company has ensured its long legacy through second-to-none service and unmatched quality.
Now an international presence, the company balances national partnerships with a growing global footprint. In the eight decades since its founding, Tempco Manufacturing has adapted to an increasingly competitive industry. Marking this milestone anniversary means looking to the future, as Michael Gerhardson, Director of Sales and Marketing, explains: “We’re in a period of transition at this point. We’re looking at our customer base in-depth and considering the industries we serve. Our mission is to level up our offering through strategic investment in additional aftermarket services, as well as branching out into new territories.”
Distinguishing itself from traditional job shops, Tempco Manufacturing offers end-to-end metal forming capabilities. As Michael goes on: “We provide comprehensive metal forming services, specializing in sheet metal stamping and fabrication. Because our capabilities are fully turnkey, from design support through to production and finishing, we serve as a true manufacturing partner for companies looking to outsource their metal forming operations.
“Our services are quite specialized. When you talk to the public, most people don’t really understand what metal stamping is. It’s similar to metal forming and fabrication, but the key difference comes down to volume. We focus on high-volume orders and large batch runs, alongside smaller, one-off custom jobs.”
With metal stamping, Tempco Manufacturing works with the same precision-based tools each time, specifically punch presses. “We also have a wider range of machinery available in-house, including lasers, water jets, wire cutters, EDM, and turret presses,” adds Michael. “With this equipment, we’re able to produce components in up to eight different ways, depending on the design. Each process has a corresponding piece price and engineering charge.
“We always provide our customers with total transparency, so they’re empowered to make the right decision for them. We ask a lot of questions up-front and provide answers to any questions the client is unsure about. Not everyone is going to be an expert in metal forming, and that’s completely fine. We’re here to provide information and a guiding hand, as well as metal forming services.”
Tempco Manufacturing often helps refine customers’ manufacturing processes by asking targeted questions. “For example, we might ask them to consider why they’ve chosen a particular method to produce their part – is it based on the product’s lifecycle, lead times, or required durability? We help them weigh all these factors and provide expert insight at this vital stage of the production process.”
Providing customers with technical support and access to 80 years of expertise is one way in which Tempco Manufacturing sets itself apart from the competition. As Michael continues: “It’s in the design stage that we really get stuck in and offer something most manufacturers can’t.
“We’re equipped to evaluate anything from alloy types to tolerances. We can envision the entire production process and deliver the optimal solution for our customers. We will always ask additional questions and try to gain as full a view of the product journey as possible.
“Before we fire up a machine or even step onto the shop floor, we already know how the component will be used; where, and under what conditions. There’s a detailed design phase, followed by pre-production and prototyping, which takes place over the course of short-, medium-, or long-run progressive quantities. These additional services elevate the end product and make us an invaluable resource for our clients.”
With a focus on in-house tooling and value engineering, Tempco Manufacturing enhances its customer experience while optimizing operations. From its industry-leading facility in Minnesota, the company oversees every stage of the manufacturing process.
“We’ve always invested in keeping our operations internal. Not only does this mean we own and operate some of the industry’s most advanced technology, but it also allows us to minimize costs and pass those savings on to our customers.
“There’s no compromise on quality. One of the benefits of having such a long legacy is that we’ve already cultivated the tools and expertise needed to succeed. It goes beyond the machinery we’ve inherited – it’s embedded in our core values. We prioritize vertical integration to deliver higher quality service at a lower price point,” Michael affirms.
Built on 80 years of excellence, Tempco Manufacturing now looks to secure future successes. The company has big plans for expansion in the coming years, as Michael reveals: “Looking ahead, we have a plan in place to double the size of our business within the next five years or sooner. Our focus is on expansion and managing growth effectively. We aim to increase our presence without placing additional strain on our workforce or creating bottlenecks.
“We’re dedicated to executing our strategy as effectively as possible, because disappointing customers simply isn’t who we are. This is a marathon, not a sprint. We’ve taken everything into consideration to ensure that, in the end, everybody wins,” he concludes.
