Elliott Matsuura Canada is entering a new chapter of purposeful, people-led growth
With a heritage spanning more than 75 years, Elliott Matsuura Canada (Elliott) is a leading supplier of high-quality machine tools throughout Canada, alongside delivering a multitude of services and solutions to meet specific customer needs. As a total solutions partner encompassing automation, engineering, and start-up services, Elliott offers solutions in metal cutting and fabrication, EDM, additive manufacturing, and metrology, mainly for aerospace, automotive, energy, medical, and high-tech industries.

The company originated in the UK as part of the B. Elliott Group and established its Canadian operation in 1950, initially importing machine tools from the UK. During the UK’s machine tool industry transformation and consolidation in the 1960s and 1970s, the company began to distribute several brands of equipment from Europe rather than exclusively selling the B. Elliott brand. The range eventually grew to include CNC metal cutting machinery, metal fabricating, metrology, and electrical discharge machines.
In 1988, the company was purchased by a Japanese firm, Matsuura Machinery Corporation (Matsuura), which remains one of Elliott’s key product lines today. Passionate about quality products, innovative services, and customer satisfaction, Matsuura has supported Elliott to retain and strengthen its position as a trusted supplier of machine tools and complementary products to meet varying customer demands across the nation.
Today, the company is headed up by President Vince D’Alessio. Mike Ballerscheff, currently Executive Vice President, is preparing to step into Vince’s shoes in 2027. Looking ahead to this transition, we sit down with Vince and Mike to learn more about the next stage of Elliott’s impressive growth story.
“Elliott has had to reinvent itself many times throughout its 75-year history, finding additional products or services to secure business,” Vince opens. “Today, we have an extensive portfolio of equipment on offer from a range of world-class brands like Matsuura, Nakamura Tome Precision (Nakamura), Fanuc, Hurco, LVD, Hexagon, Correa, and Tacchi. We also carry a line of complementary products to provide solutions for our customers in terms of metrology, forming, and fabrication. For instance, LVD is a Belgian-based machine manufacturer of lasers and press brakes, whereas we work with Hexagon for our metrology solutions. Having represented Hurco exclusively in Canada for the last 12-to-15 years, we also have an excellent working relationship with them and have won their Dealer of the Year award several times.”
Mike adds: “Having such a wide selection enables us to assist customers with not only manufacturing and measuring parts, but also communication between machine tools, which is an important part of our strategy to serve a vast range of customer requirements. Canada is a huge country with scattered pockets of industry, and we want our salespeople to have something to offer to virtually any company they walk into. We represent Tacchi, for instance, which offers very large lathes and deep hole drilling machines for specific applications, as well as Correa to offer other large, specialized equipment. These brands fill gaps in our portfolio for areas of manufacturing that doesn’t have huge demand in Canada but still requires a trusted partner.”
Alongside an extensive portfolio of brands and equipment types, Elliott prioritizes effective and responsive customer service. “Customer support has always been an important pillar in our business,” Vince states. “We represent high-value machinery, and we’re committed to providing high-end service and support that aligns with these expectations, especially as equipment becomes more complex and sophisticated.”

Beyond its product and service strategy, Vince and Mike are equally focused on ensuring long-term stability through a carefully planned leadership transition. “I’ve been with the company for almost 12 years, and together, Vince and I have created a plan to slowly engage a new management team to take over in 2027,” Mike explains. “We’re being meaningful and methodical in this transition, and Vince has been a fantastic mentor to me for some time now. As I become President, I have progressive plans to meaningfully transform the company to align with the future needs of our industry. I’d like to see more automation but for the most part, the leadership transition will have minimal impact on our customers.
“One of my priorities is to accelerate our digital systems,” Mike continues. “The company has invested in some great systems over the years, but it’s important to remember that performance is only as good as the data you put into them. Moving forward, we’re progressing data sharing across platforms and exploring how we can better utilize AI to connect several systems. We’re also using AI to predict new trends and products, as well as a special service tool where our technicians can ask questions or automate processes.”
Vince also shares his perspective on the transition: “Mike has always possessed leadership qualities alongside an effective educational background, and he has done an excellent job on the customer side of the business. The person at the top of any company must be able to connect with the customer base, setting an example for the wider team. I’m a firm believer in promoting from within and Mike is the perfect example of the ideal person to lead the business through its next era. I’ll remain in the company for a while in an advisory role, but I’m conscious to be a useful resource rather than stepping in the way of Mike and his team.”
With a purposeful succession plan in place, Elliott looks poised for another successful era of growth and success. “Our vision for the future is ‘exceptional equipment, exceptional service, and exceptional people’ so we’ll continue to identify and represent unique solutions for the industry, while making small, meaningful changes to strengthen our internal systems and secure the right people on our teams,” Mike says.
“From a broader perspective, it’s important to consider what the future of manufacturing in Canada will look like to anticipate the equipment companies will need in years to come,” Vince concludes. “There’s going to be uncertainty and challenges along the way, but our strong manufacturing base, superior service, and dedicated people will ensure our continued success.”
