How Giti Tire USA is reinventing performance and production in the American market

With a heritage of more than 70 years in the tire industry, Giti Tire (Giti) has built a reputation for resilience, consistency, and innovation in an increasingly competitive and fast-evolving global marketplace. Backed by extensive resources and decades of experience, the company’s integrated business platform combines its global manufacturing and R&D network with advanced sales, marketing, and distribution channels to drive sustained growth and technological excellence. Consolidating its position in the US market, Giti is now focusing on its ‘Made in the USA’ strategy.

“Giti has been around for 74 years, more than half the time of the global tire industry, and in the US for 30 years,” opens Phang Wai Yeen, CEO. “Our roots are froma tire building machine Indonesia with the Giti name coming from Gajah Tunggal, meaning ‘supreme elephant’ when translated from Bahasa. Our elephant is a symbol of power, endurance, intelligence, and trust. While we continue to sell GT Radial, Dextero and Primewell brands, we’re now introducing our flagship brand, Giti, to the US market.”

David Poling, Vice President R&D and Technical for Giti Tire R&D Center North America, elaborates on the company’s products. “We develop and manufacture a comprehensive range of application-specific tire solutions for passenger cars, SUVs, 4x4s, commercial vans, trucks, buses, motorsports, and specialty off-road machinery,” he explains. “Each tire is developed using advanced engineering principles, combining optimized tread geometry, high-modulus casing construction, and specialized belt and bead configurations to enhance structural integrity and uniformity. Proprietary compound formulations are precisely tuned for heat dissipation, abrasion resistance, and traction performance across a range of operating conditions. From load distribution and rolling resistance optimization to noise reduction and ride comfort, every Giti product is engineered to deliver measurable performance, safety, and efficiency advantages across diverse global applications.”

Michael Markoff, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Giti Tire USA adds: “We’ve recently launched a new touring line in the Giti brand, the GitiComfort XA1, as well as new lines in the All-Weather category in Giti and GT Radial brands. In early 2026, Giti will be launching a full line of AT and RT tires in both the Giti and GT Radial brands, targeting consumers looking for a more aggressive design and appearance.”

Giti serves a wide range of industries, but it has a particular specialism when it comes to motorsports. “Our involvement in motorsports allows us to learn, research, and push the boundaries of technology, gaining invaluable data that directly informs our tire innovations,” David states. “By analyzing vehicle dynamics simulations and performance metrics from racetrack data, we gain critical insights into tire behavior at the limits of performance. Using tools like F&M testing, CarSim vehicle dynamics simulations, and GripMax race-proven compounds, we continuously refine our tire designs for everyday consumers, ensuring high performance and enhanced safety on regular roads.

“Formula Drift, for example, is the ultimate proving ground for our GT Radial SX2 RS tires. The racetrack is where we can push our tires to the limits. Imagine more than 1000 horsepower cars living on the edge, fully testing the tire’s capabilities as they slide through the curves while still accelerating forward. It’s where new material technology is developed and proven before the same science makes it into our consumer tires.Formula Drift also aligns with our marketing strategy to build brand awareness, as well as our ‘Made in America’ strategy, with all our race tires being produced in our South Carolina factory.”

the Giti Tire manufacturing facility in Richburg, South CarolinaTurning to Giti’s manufacturing facilities, David continues: “Our state-of-the-art production facilities integrate deep learning algorithms and computer vision for real-time defect detection, ensuring consistent quality. Predictive analytics optimize production parameters, minimize material waste, and enhance efficiency. We also use IoT-enabled sensors and systems like SmartQual MES and GitiSmart Tech to monitor tire pressure, temperature, and wear in real time. This data-driven approach helps fleet operators maximize tire lifespan and ensure safety.”

Although Giti has been a global player in the tire industry for decades, the company has adopted a localized approach. “Understanding that US drivers expect tires designed specifically for US roads, vehicles, and driving conditions, Giti embarked on a mission to create products engineered by Americans, for Americans,” Michael confirms. “This approach was solidified when we broke ground on our US manufacturing facility in Richburg, South Carolina, which has now been in operation for over eight years and is the cornerstone of Giti’s ‘Made in the USA’ strategy. The1.7-million-square-foot manufacturing plant and distribution center currently employs over 900 people and supportseducational initiativeslike STEAM to build a legacy of manufacturing professionals in Chester County and beyond.

“Today, we’re continuing to expand our North American footprint, with the long-term goal of producing the full range of tires for the US market domestically. By combining global expertise with local engineering and R&D, we can deliver products that offer superior performance, durability, and safety, ensuring that every tire is tailored to the needs of American drivers. Some of our product lines produced in our Richburg facility are labelled with ‘Made in the USA’ or ‘American Engineering,’ and we are expanding this communication further over the next few years.”

As the social and environmental impact of climate crisis become increasingly urgent, Giti has developed a comprehensive framework to address these challenges while continuing to contribute to the wider community. “Our sustainability initiatives focus on key areas such as green energy adoption, flue-gas desulfurization (FGD), water recycling, and securing green certifications,” Phang explains. “Through our advanced R&D arm, Advanztech, we leverage cutting-edge equipment and technologies to turn forward-thinking, eco-conscious concepts into practical, green production solutions.

“Collaboration is central to Giti’s environmental strategy,” he adds. “For years, we’ve partnered with Conservation International (CI), for instance, to support rainforest protection programs in Sumatra, Indonesia, and the southwestern mountains of China. These efforts have mitigated carbon emissions equivalent to a century of Giti’s own production output. Beyond carbon reduction, Giti and CI collaborate on freshwater and seawater conservation, reforestation initiatives, habitat restoration, and zoonotic disease prevention – demonstrating the company’s commitment to safeguarding ecosystems and promoting environmental stewardship on a global scale.”

With its deep industry heritage, advanced technical capabilities, and a growing US manufacturing presence, Giti will continue to elevate the performance, reliability, and safety of its products. As an industry-leading player, Giti’s blend of global expertise and local commitment will remain at the forefront of the company’s growth moving forward.
