Learn more about Horse Powertrain’s groundbreaking Future Hybrid Concept An independent new powertrain solutions business with over 125 years of heritage from Renault and Geely, Horse Powertrain boasts a well-established global manufacturing presence. Indeed, with 17 plants and five research and development (R&D) centers spanning three continents: South America, Europe, and Asia, the company is well-equipped to meet the requirements of every market. Horse Powertrain’s mission is to drive the industry forward by offering many different pathways to achieve Net Zero. With an estimated 50 percent of vehicles on the road still projected to be combustion or hybrid by 2040, Horse Powertrain possesses the expertise, scale, and innovation to build a better world for the many, not the few. We learn more about Horse Powertrain’s unwavering commitment to the protection of both humanity and our planet, grounded in the belief that only transformative actions taken today can ensure a better tomorrow. Recognizing that the current global challenges standing before us are unprecedented, the company believes that addressing them requires a rapid and decisive transition to clean energy and sustainable resource use. This calls for local initiatives as well as international cooperation to lower emissions and adapt to the unavoidable repercussions of climate change. In response to this pressing demand, Horse Powertrain is committed to making change happen by moving its industry forward through new innovations, operational methodologies, and ways of thinking. As a recently formed business, the company is currently working on consolidating its two divisions, Aurobay Technologies and Horse Technologies, which are derived from the former hybrid and combustion production footprints of Geely Auto and Renault Group. Horse Powertrain has established ambitious targets for slashing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and beyond, as well as responsible business practices and a vow to making a positive impact on its employees, neighboring communities, and the environment at large. As it continues to merge its people and resources under a single banner, the company is also taking great care to nurture the environmental, social, and governance policies that are already in place, in order to ensure it aligns, consolidates, and advances its approach. Horse Technologies, the Renault-derived division of the joint venture, has also signed up to ambitious decarbonization targets that have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), with a goal to achieve Net Zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. In line with its sustainability efforts, it is committed to reducing its scope 1 and 2 emissions by a staggering 42 percent by 2030, increasing the use of renewable electricity to 100 percent, and decreasing scope 3 emissions from its products by 25 percent. These measures reflect Horse Technologies’ commitment to sustainability and its role as a transformative agent toward a decarbonized automotive industry. Horse Powertrain’s market dominance extends far and wide, with its powertrains and transmissions covering 80 percent of the global market’s demands. Its range of powertrain solutions suits the diverse requirements of nearly every customer, in every region and across every fuel type. On the 23rd of April 2025, Horse Powertrain debuted for the first time as a consolidated, independent global powertrain organization at this year’s Auto Shanghai event. At the event it unveiled its Future Hybrid Concept, a revolutionary hybrid powertrain engineered to accelerate the industry’s transition to Net Zero. It integrates an internal combustion engine (ICE), an electric motor, and a transmission into a single, compact unit. This new powertrain allows automakers to hybridize Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) platforms to meet evolving customer demands while eliminating the need for multiple platforms and production lines. The lightweight and modular design of this powertrain facilitates its seamless integration within existing BEV platforms, serving as a range extender to the current battery system. Furthermore, its transmission and driveshafts enable All-Wheel Drive (AWD) capabilities in both electric vehicles and parallel modes. The Future Hybrid Concept can be powered by a range of fuel types, including gasoline, ethanol flex fuels, pure methanol, and modern synthetic fuels. Horse Powertrain envisions the first vehicles equipped with the Future Hybrid Concept hitting the road as early as 2028, marking a significant step forward in powertrain production. From its visionary Future Hybrid Concept to its ambitious emissions reduction targets, Horse Powertrain is pioneering transformative change for a cleaner tomorrow. horse-powertrain.com 3 June 20253 June 2025 Iain global, 236, Horse Powertrain, Hybrid, Automotive, Net Zero 4 min read AutomotiveInsights
