Propelled by innovation and precision, Janicki Industries redefines aerospace manufacturing

Located in Washington and Utah, Janicki Industries manufactures tools, parts, prototypes, and assemblies for the global defense and aerospace industries. Since last appearing in Manufacturing Today, the business has reached new heights. As John Janicki, President, begins: “We’ve seen a lot of growth in recent years. The business has expanded considerably, and with that we’ve invested in training, new buildings, and new equipment. It’s been an exciting time, overall.”

Always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, Janicki Industries’ latest project is housed in a bespoke facility that’s designed to manufacture and test the latest in aerospace technology. As John details: “We’ve been working on a new aerospace program, out of an all-new, state-of-the-art facility covering 180,000 square feet.

The building is designed and constructed around the project and its demands, which has made a huge difference in the long run. Everything is built for purpose, and the whole thing came together very efficiently.

“I think a lot of our success also came down to having the right people in the right places. We’re producing at an exceptional rate. We’re pushing the limits of aerospace technology manufacturing, and that’s a huge accomplishment for the business.”

Working on complex machinery and refined technology means Janicki Industries must take a proactive approach to manufacturing. The company combines cutting-edge technology with an expert human touch to ensure all its components are fit for purpose. As John explains: “We operate through hands-on assembly. The company brings in a lot of parts from other areas, which means there’s not a lot of machine work, especially on location. The components are very advanced and complex, so keen oversight is important at every stage.

“We do rely on some industrial grade ovens, which we maintain regularly, and we’ve also invested in some inspection equipment. This is to ensure the absolute highest standards of safety throughout the operation.”

With demand on the rise, Janicki Industries is now working on another brand-new facility, which will offer several advantages. As John reveals: “The new facility is designed to support some of our existing programs, as well as some potential new projects that are in the pipeline. Once it’s complete, we’ll be installing some cutting-edge equipment, such as a new 18-foot diameter autoclave, and a fiber placement machine. We’re also bringing in some new milling machines, which will be used to drill large components out of composite metals.”

Throughout its tenure, Janicki Industries has been recognized as an industry leader. Having recently received a Northrup Grumman Supplier Excellence Award, John reflects on what makes the company so unique: “We strive to have a very simple business. The products we produce are complex, and they make up some of the most advanced technology available in the defense and aerospace industries. So, when it comes to supplier and customer relations, we must keep it straightforward. We’re easy to do business with, and that’s why we have received so many accolades.

“We also aim to maintain that sense of simplicity when it comes to our internal working culture. We take care of our employees just like we take care of our customers. We keep all the material and equipment they need stocked and available, and we also offer support through rigorous, ongoing training programs. two electricians working on what appears to be an electrical system

“All of those elements come together to create a happy team of industry experts. They have the support, the tools, and the community they need to make incredible pieces of technology. I’m proud to win awards, but I’m even more proud of the people who make it happen.”

John and his team are dedicated to ongoing innovation, and nothing makes the company stand out more than its research and development work. As John details: “We’re currently working on several experimental projects. Our focus is on large components in a number of specific areas, including subs and assembled structures.

“Our goals are to reduce unnecessary spending and improve quality for our customers, and we’ve seen a lot of success in these areas. Striving to improve has always been a big motivator for the business, and it’s become even more important in regard to our current ongoing programs.

“We’ve adopted a number of strategies to achieve our goals. For example, we’ve taken an overview of our processes and worked on some of our higher quantity programs to ensure consistency. We’ve also put a lot of research time into minimizing costs while maintaining, and even raising the bar, for quality.”

Innovation, dedication, and boundary-pushing keeps Janicki Industries focused on the future. Looking ahead, John considers what’s next for the business: “We’re looking to achieve continuous growth over the coming year. One of our priorities is ensuring our entire workforce is well informed and trained across as many areas as possible. With more capabilities, we’re also investing in more capacity. We have new facilities that will be operational soon, and the additional technology, alongside our team of experts, will ensure the company can continue taking care of its customers.

“In addition, we’re poised to take advantage of new opportunities. With more space and enhanced capabilities, we have everything in place to deliver on a range of exciting projects over the coming year, and beyond,” he concludes.
