Ulbrich

Many manufacturers boast of their capabilities, but Ulbrich can back that up with approval from Rolls-Royce, General Electric and Pratt & Whitney. In operation since 1924, Ulbrich understands what its customers need, and that is precision. With a vast range of capabilities and a dedication to value, Ulbrich remains on the cutting edge of its market and continues to grow.

“There are many production and material capabilities that Ulbrich offers, but, in the end, it’s the people at Ulbrich who make the difference,” the company says. “We are a family owned company in its fourth generation of leadership. Our dedicated leadership and highly skilled team of metallurgists, product managers, engineers, equipment operators and professional sales staff provides the environment for all our employees to focus their talent and energies in a common direction.”

Based in Connecticut, Ulbrich is a global precision re-roller and distributor of stainless steel strip, special metals strip, foil, shaped wire, fine wire, sheet, plate, bar and PV ribbon products. The company is a high-precision, value-added processor of metals for complex manufacturing applications such as aerospace jet engine seals, nuclear reactor fuel cages, heart pacemaker containers, computer chip substrate, chemical processing tower components and automotive airbag burst disks.

Ulbrich explains its material is made in the forms of precision strip and Ultralite foil, flat and round wire, as well as ultra-fine dimensions. The company has 12 locations in Asia, Europe and North America, as well as sales representatives worldwide.

“Our precision-rolled strip and service-center products are known for their excellent reliability and superior performance in critical applications,” the company says. “These products are the result of years of metallurgical development, offering properties well beyond those of ordinary metals. Our job is to supply our clients with metals engineered to enhance and improve their processes and products.”

Trained and Experienced

Ulbrich takes pride in providing customers with engineered metal solutions for demanding applications. The company offers:

    >Superior material selection, availability and consistency;
    >State-of-the-art equipment and skilled production teams that can produce extreme nano-tolerances on metals as thin as .00039 inches;
    > Prototype to production;
    >Unmatched industry market managers skilled in critical application product development and production problem solving.

“Ulbrich’s staff of highly trained and experienced engineers, product managers and sales executives are available to assist in all aspects of material selection and production of clients’ stainless steel or special metal requirements,” the company says. “We strive to provide our customers with personalized material solutions designed to suit their needs and manufacturing processes. Whether we are restricting material chemistry, narrowing mechanical property ranges for forming, tension leveling for flatness or providing a shaped edge for semi-finished product, we will provide an engineered solution for their material specifications. Our commitment to providing the highest-quality stainless steel and special metals strip, foil and wire products is the cornerstone of our success.”

This quality, the company notes, is the result of the expertise and skill of its staff. Ulbrich employs more than 700 people around the world, speaking more than 25 languages. More than 80 percent of its employees have long tenures, and the company says the majority of Ulbrich employees stay on to eventually retire from the operation.

“As one of the highest compliments that can be paid to any company, many of  our employees recommend employment at Ulbrich to their children and other family members,” the company says. “It is not uncommon to have two and three generations working for the company concurrently. These artisans perform daily tasks for our customers, participate in the running of our company and work on continuous development of their skills and knowledge.”

The company explains it works hard to “forge a spirit of teamwork between its divisions, departments and employees,” which stems from Ulbrich’s “total customer responsiveness, total company involvement, total quality commitment and continuous professional development.”

Ulbrich explains its employees are continuously trained. In addition to what is required by ISO, QS and the other industry standards it maintains, the company has its own policy and measures the training and education achievements of its employees. Additionally, Ulbrich provides “financial encouragement” to employees who continue their education outside the workplace.

“But one thing remains unchanged, according to our late Chairman Fred Ulbrich Jr., ‘Our philosophy in the early years is the same as it is now: give customers what they need, when they need it,and do your best to exceed their expectations. Our challenge now is to keep the fire of this idea alive in the minds of our employees and into the next generation  of management.’”
