Having quarried sand in Mansfield for nearly 200 years, Mansfield Sand has built up a solid reputation across the UK. From its Great Exhibition Gold medal in 1851, to its triple win at the 2024 Chad Business Excellence Awards, the business has continued to be recognized for the highest quality products and services.

Two Oaks Quarry operated by Mansfield Sand Company, located in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, EnglandEncompassing both Brick and Sand Divisions at its long-established bases in North Nottinghamshire, UK, Mansfield Sand has invested several millions of pounds in both a state-of-the-art brick facility and more recently in a new purpose-built quarry. Its Brickworks is now one of the most modern and technically advanced in Europe, while the Two Oaks Quarry has the most up-to-date and advanced equipment currently in the industry. The combination of state-of-the-art technology and rigorous quality standards have earned Mansfield Sand a blue-chip client list across the equestrian, landscaping, industrial, brick, agricultural and sports sectors.

For equestrian applications, for example, its range caters to all riding disciplines. From private and livery yards to racecourses and prestigious events, the business is a market leader in fiber reinforced sand-based products, designed to ensure optimum performance, stability and durability.

Products for the landscaping sector include fiber rootzone landscape and tree sand, while the industrial range covers a variety of uses, from brick, block, tile and foundry to grout and drainage systems. Whether a client is looking for asphalt and plastering sand, cable and pipe bedding sand, or specialist industrial sands, Mansfield has a product to suit the application.

Similarly, the Brick Division is a significant player in the brick industry. It produces over 30 million concrete brick products, ranging from concrete commons and coursings to brick slips and closure blocks. Supplying major builders’ merchants, buying groups and floor beam manufacturers, Mansfield Sand offers over 20 different concrete brick and bespoke products to meet the needs of the construction industry.

Moving on to the agricultural sector, the company’s innovation has resulted in agricultural sand that is perfect for cattle bedding. A cost-effective alternative to straw, it offers multiple benefits including keeping cattle cool in the summer and warm in winter and providing a soft and safe surface for cattle to lie on. Cattle bedding sand is inorganic so will not harbor bacterial growth, and soiled sand can then be used for land fertilization.

For its sports segment, Mansfield Sand’s extensive client portfolio includes some of the most prestigious sporting venues across the UK and Europe. Today it supplies over 400 golf courses across the UK with rootzone materials, top dressing and bunker sand, as well as 16 Premier League clubs, 16 Championship clubs and 120 other football league and non-league clubs with materials for their pitches.

Working with blue-chip clients across these segments requires exemplary levels of customer service and quality, and Mansfield Sand is certified to ISO9001:2015, a recognized mark of excellence across the world. When looking to further reassure customers of the quality of its products and operations, the business can highlight testimonials from satisfied customers, as well as note three prestigious titles earned at the Chad Business Excellence Awards in 2024. The Chad Business Excellence Awards are among the most esteemed honors in the Mansfield and Ashfield region, designed to celebrate the best in local business. a sand quarry or processing facility

Drawing attention to the company’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and teamwork, and cementing its position as a leader in its industry, Mansfield Sand was crowned Manufacturing Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year and 2024 Business of the Year. Mansfield Sand’s success in these categories underlines its commitment to exceptional standards and its impactful contributions to the local business community.

But it’s not just the external business community that feels the influence of Mansfield Sand’s efforts – it serves its own staff and local communities with the same levels of dedication. Demonstrating its commitment, in February 2025 the business announced its official support for The Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity.

As a company supporter, Mansfield Sand is helping to ensure that vital emotional, physical, and financial support is available to construction workers and their families across the UK and Ireland. Phil Jackson, HSE Manager for Mansfield Sand, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for supporting the charity: “At Mansfield Sand, we understand the challenges faced by those in the construction and allied industries and the importance of having accessible support when it’s needed most. The Lighthouse Club does incredible work in ensuring that no one in the sector must face difficulties alone, and we are proud to play a part in helping them continue their mission.”

As part of its CSR efforts, the company is also dedicated to sustainability across its operation. The management team at every level looks at ways to ensure operations are conducted with the highest regard for the environment with all legislation and regulatory standards incorporated into working practices. Mineral extraction is only undertaken where suitable ecological deposits exist, and the sites are chosen to minimize environmental and social impacts. Furthermore, Mansfield Sand looks to follow best practices in the sustainability of its sourcing, production and transportation of products. All products are certified to meet the highest standards and are traceable from source to customer, with minimum processing other than decontamination of foreign bodies.

In a press release discussing how its sand quarry has become a hub for biodiversity and sustainability, Phil Jackson notes that the sites are designed with sustainability in mind. “We aim to preserve natural habitats, playing our part in helping [these] birds to breed safely and increase their populations while meeting industry demands,” he says. The site has a rich and diverse progressive restoration scheme which will increase the amount of lowland heath to the county once the quarry has been worked out. There are only 250 hectares of the threatened heathland in Nottinghamshire and the company will contribute to an additional 24 hectares of primary habitat.

“We conduct business with integrity and respect for the environment,” asserts Phil. “Sustainability is central to our practices.” As resident and visiting birds continue to nest, Mansfield Sand stands as a model of sustainable industry – a testament to the balance between progress and environmental stewardship.
