World-leading transmissions powerhouse, SADEV Industries, gears up for a new era of growth, investment, and innovation
Upholding a legacy spanning 50+ years, SADEV Industries is regarded as a pioneer in motorsport transmission systems. Established from humble roots in historical Saint-Prouant, France, SADEV has transformed from a precision-machining subcontractor to a global leader in the production of high-performance drivetrain technology.
The company was founded by Benoît and Odile Vincendeau in 1974, born from a passion for motorsport. Benoît was an autocross pilot who was unable to find a transmission that met his needs, so he designed and built his own. Brimming with entrepreneurial spirit, Benoît showcased the reliability and endurance of his gearbox with a high position during a world championship round, and his success impressed car manufacturers across the globe.

Over the decades, SADEV introduced a multitude of major technological milestones as it embarked upon its growth trajectory. In 1978, the company created its first gear kit for autocross and, less than 20 years later, its first sequential gearbox in 1996. In conjunction, the business continued to expand and diversify its service offerings, integrated new heat treatment, CNC, and precision machining capabilities as it grew.
In 2013, SADEV Transmissions, Inc, was born in Mooresville, USA, and two years later, SADEV became a key supplier in Formula E – a major landmark in its journey. In 2022, SADEV became significantly involved in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). By 2024, the company had expanded its scope with the crea-tion of SADEV Industries, an international industrial group uniting several complementary subsidiaries: SADEV Racing Transmission (focusing on the production of motorsport gearboxes), Billard Engrenages (gear manufacturing), Tunisie Applications Mécaniques (precision machining), VADP (mechanical produc-tion), SERODEM (precision machining, tooling, and custom parts), and BESSIN RECTIFICATION (high‑precision grinding). Together, these subsidiaries strengthen SADEV Industries’ vertical integration, boost production capacity, and open opportunities in strategic industrial markets such as aerospace, pet-rochemicals, rail, energy, defense, and beyond.
Today, SADEV’s operations are greater than ever before. Now in its 52nd year in business, SADEV is led by Laurent Dubuche, Chief Executive Officer, whose passion and ambitious operational strategy is scaling SADEV’s capabilities to new heights. Manufacturing Today sits down with Laurent to gain exclusive in-sight into SADEV’s ongoing investment program, as well as how strategic partnerships and initiatives continue to drive the company’s innovation.
“SADEV’s strength lies in its fully vertically integrated value chain, covering design, machining, heat treatment, gear cutting, grinding, assembly, and testing,” Laurent begins. “This results in total quality control, reduced supplier dependency, faster response times, and greater reliability for high‑stress applications in motorsport and industry. The contribution of SERODEM and BESSIN RECTIFICATION further enhances this integration; SERODEM supports complex custom machining, tooling and precision engineering needs, whilst BESSIN RECTIFICATION ensures perfect finishing and ultra‑tight tolerances for gears and critical components. By incorporating these capabilities internally, SADEV Industries strengthens supply‑chain resilience and maintains industrial autonomy.”
Strategy
Building on this strong industrial foundation and tightly integrated expertise, SADEV’s strategy naturally extends beyond operational control to sustained technological and infrastructural advancement. The company’s commitment to high quality and responsiveness bolsters the stability and confidence required to pursue ambitious investments in facilities, equipment, innovation, and skills development, ensuring that performance on the shop floor translates directly into competitive advantage on the track and in demanding industrial markets.

“SADEV has historically invested heavily in advanced industrial equipment and continues to invest several million euros per year. These investments included a 3000 m² facility expansion few years ago, along with new metrology units, a new ERP, conical gear-cutting machines, and straight gear-grinding units,” Laurent details. “On a technological level, we’ve invested in a new patented differential for off-road SP08 and a new, more compact gearbox for off-road use – both used during the Dakar. In addition to that is a new transmission that’s specifically designed for sand sport, particularly for the American market, and another new transmission for endurance application, including GT. Alongside these, we’ve also implemented a dedicated internal training academy with a machining simulator, as well as ongoing modernization across all subsidiaries at the wider Group level. Together, all these investments enhance production capacity, quality and long‑term competitiveness.”
Beyond strengthening its industrial and technological capabilities, SADEV’s sustained investment strategy is representative of its perpetual pursuit for world-leading performance. When the company’s 50th anniversary rolled around in 2024, it wanted to celebrate with a longstanding partnership that truly embodies this legacy and its hunger for excellence. Enter: world famous French rally driver, Sébastien Loeb.
“When the company was about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, we were looking for an ambassador. Sébastien Loeb is as old as the company and we share a tale of commitment and an unwavering pursuit of excellence, which began when Sébastien made his early mark in the JWRC, clinching both the French Championship and the Junior WRC World Championship titles behind the wheel of the Citroën SAXO Super 1600. The gearboxes and transmissions engineered by SADEV accompanied Sébastien in his first victories, propelling him to stardom across Rally, Rallycross, Circuit Racing, and Hill Climb events, including the record-breaking feat at Pikes Peak. This partnership proved that behind every sporting triumph lies cut-ting-edge engineering,” Laurent reveals.
“Buoyed by decades of shared success, SADEV took the partnership one step further: Sébastien Loeb is now the official ambassador of the values that define us – excellence and performance. This collaboration honors the tireless work of the past 50 years.”
From a small workshop in Saint-Prouant to a globally integrated industrial group, SADEV’s journey is one defined by precision, performance, and relentless ambition. As the market demand for high-performance transmission continues to grow, the company remains dedicated to investing in the technology, talent, and partnerships that keep it firmly at the forefront of motorsport and high-performance industry.
“We are proud to be among the 252 companies selected out of four million in France for a dedicated sup-port program to help transition from an SME to a mid‑cap company,” Laurent affirms, concluding our con-versation optimistic for the future ahead. “In five years’ time, our ambition is to consolidate our position as a technological leader while expanding our presence beyond motorsport. We aim to reach a turnover of around €70 million, with 70 percent of that coming from motorsport program and 30 percent from other high‑value industries such as aeronautics, defense, nuclear, and general industry. Our priority is continued investment to maintain our market-leading position. This includes strengthening our information systems – such as our ERP, PLM, and PPO platforms – as well as accelerating our innovative efforts through R&D. These combined investments will enable us to scale efficiently, reduce lead times, and support more com-plex multi‑market programs. They will also reinforce our ability to develop advanced solutions for new motorsport disciplines and transfer our knowhow to high‑value industrial sectors.
“Ultimately, our goal is to build a more diversified, resilient and innovation‑driven business model – one that leverages our motorsport expertise to create sustainable growth across multiple strategic markets.”
